Abstract

In thepresent work heattransfer andfriction factor properties were experimentally investigated by using copperwavytwisted tape insertswith circular holes in forced convection. The turbulent flow was created by inserting the wavy twisted tape inserts into the test pipecreating highrateof turbulence in pipe, which results in increasing heat transfer enhancement and pressure drop. The tape consists of the circular holesand the twisting with various twist ratios (TR=5.5, 6.5, 8.5). The lengthand width of insert was 500 mm and 16 mm respectively. Theoutside diameter &insidediameter of test pipe is 32 mm & 28 mm respectively. The length of test sectionis 500mm. The bulk mean temperatures at various positions are used for different flow rateof air. From the obtained results the new Correlations for Nusselt number and friction factor are developed for twisted tape inserts. TheReynolds number is varied from 2000 to 12000. The results of varying twists in wavy twisted tape inserts with different pitches have been compared with the values for the smooth tube.It showed that the highest heat transfer rate was achieved for the wavy twisted tape with twist ratio 5.5.
