Abstract

Lack of Corn processing machines, especially Maize Sheller, is a major problem ofCornproduction, especiallyinourcountryIndia.Inthispaperbasicreview ofresearch-workfordesign,fabricate,andperformance evaluation of a Corn Sheller consisting of feed hopper, shellingunit, separatingunitandpowersystemiscarried out .The performance of the machine was studied in terms of throughput capacity, shelling efficiency, materialefficiencyandmechanicaldamage.Regressionmodels that could be used to express the relationship existing between the Sheller performance indices, pod moisturecontentandfeedratewereestablish.Thispaper describes about the design of variouscomponentsofMaizeShellermachineusingdifferentmethodology. The machine could be operated continuously for a comparatively long time with high shelling ratewithout causing damage to kernels. Four shelling units can be providedforshellingofmaizecobsandoperatedwiththe chainandsprocketarrangement.Theresultsrevealedthat themachinewaseasytooperatewithanaveragekernelshellingrateof110kg/hrwhenoperatedbytwopersons withnoanykerneldamage.Overall, thispaperinvolvesstudy of different processes like design, fabricationandassemblingofdifferentcomponentsetc
