Abstract

Hand gesture recognition is an essential task as its application ranges from human-machine interface to sign language recognition. The classification accuracy of static gestures depends on the technique used to extract the features as well as the classifier used in the system. Artificial Neural Network (ANN) and Support Vector Machine (SVM) are the powerful mechanismsused for pattern recognition. This paper briefs the basic theory of ANN and SVM, and also provides the comparison of the Back propagation Neural Network and Support Vector Machine used as classifier for the static hand gestures.
